Dear Family,
Another week has come and gone! After Alison left on Tuesday, April 30, we worked the day at the office and made lots of calls and wrote lots of emails covering our AAAs all over the Area and Senior assignments here in Frankfurt. Later that day, when Alison was on her layover, she texted that Tyson had received his mission call and would be opening it at 9:00 p.m. that night, which would be 6:00 a.m. our time. But, we didn't want to miss out on anything, so we set the alarm for 4:30 a.m. We were absolutely ecstatic when he read that he would be going to Ukraine Dnepropetrovsk Mission. He will be entering the Provo Missionary Training Center on August 21, 2019, where he will be learning Russian! We told him not to worry about the language because Gpa George and I will help with any problems because we're experts! Hah! We are very excited for him and his family! Kade will be coming home in July and Tyson will be leaving in August. So wonderful that we keep the missionaries going!
Wednesday, May 1st - German Labor Day, so the office was closed. We actually decided just to stay home and get caught up on everything--including housecleaning and laundry. Not very exciting, but definitely needed! Hah! That evening, we joined some other Senior couples down in Frankfurt for an evening of board games. We took our Crown Five game, and AGAIN, Gpa George won easily!!! It is starting to make me frustrated! Hah! (Sorry, I am saying Hah! so many times!) Thursday and Friday - Work in the office again. Always lots to do!
Saturday, May 4th - Today, for our P-Day Adventure, we were ready to go--only one problem, it was sooo cold! Because there is so much humidity in the air, when it gets cold (in the low 40s, it just burrows right through you!) But, we headed to Baccarach and St. Goar, two little quaint towns along the Rhine River that Joyce, my sister, had told me about. We could have wandered down the streets for hours if it hadn't been so cold! When it started to rain, we left, but not before we had some German schnitzel in a darling little cafe that was more like a house with the sweetest little lady who knew practically no English! I'm actually getting better at acting things out--Hah. Oh, yes, and St. Goar takes pride in having the world's largest hand-carved free-hanging cuckoo clock in the world! You can hear it ticking up and down the whole street!
Sunday, May 5th - Each Fast Sunday, the Seniors who live in the Friedrichsdorf Area get together for a fast dinner and discussion. This week, it was our turn to host everyone at our apartment. Definitely time to get the place clean from top to bottom! Anyway, it is always so special to hear experiences and share testimonies with others who are serving here in this area.
Monday, May 6th - Today, we are back at work and trying to get ahead of our work. We are really looking forward to Beverly and Joyce, my sisters, coming in on Wednesday to spend a little time with us. Seriously, it has been such a joy to have so many family members visit. For those of you who haven't been able, we totally understand that there are many reasons that you weren't able to. That's okay--we will just have to come back with you when the timing is right! We would love that!
We want to send a shout-out to our grandson, Garrett, for finishing all the requirements to become an Eagle Scout! Although the church has been affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America for over 100 yeas, they will discontinue this affiliation at the end of this year and will be implementing a uniform youth leadership and development program that serves it members globally. Having lived outside of the United States for this past 20 months, we can certainly see the wisdom in making a program for the entire world! We are thrilled that Garrett worked hard to finish all his requirements to achieve this wonderful award before the end of the year! We send congratulations to Garrett and to his great parents who were such fantastic helpers and cheerleaders!
Also, we were happy to wish our granddaughter, Hannah, a happy 16th birthday on May 2nd! She always makes us smile! She has such a loving heart and cares so much for everyone around her! Two big events for Hannah this year are that she has loved becoming a new aunt and getting to go to her first prom with a very nice young man and doubling with her sister, Lauren, and her date. We LOVED having Hannah visit us here in Germany with some of her family!
We wish you all a wonderful week! Keep on making wise choices and staying close to the Lord!
Love, Gma Laura
