Week 54 - October 8, 2015

Dear Family,

Wow!  What a weekend!  Wasn’t conference wonderful?!  It just makes you so happy and proud to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!  Right?!  We weren’t able to watch the Women’s Session because it came on at 2:00 am, but we watched all four of the other sessions and we definitely will watch the Women’s Session this week.

Today Gpa George had to give the devotional talk in our Monday morning Devotional.  He reviewed many of the talks that really stood out to him.  Most of the talks seemed to be that we all are going to experience hard times—that is just part of life!  I couldn’t believe when Elder Ballard told all that Pres. Joseph F. Smith, his grandfather, had gone through in his life.  But he just kept persevering and living the life he knew he should, when he was blessed with the beautiful vision of what it is like in the Spirit World where he  got to see many of his loved ones there, well and happy, working hard as missionaries.

We, also, really were thrilled to hear about the two hour time at church, leaving time at home for gospel-centered teaching and family scripture study.  We hope and pray that all parents will work together to make sure this happens in each of your homes.  It is going to be vital in helping our families through temptations and difficult times.  I never will forget hearing both my dad and my mother giving lessons and basically reaffirming their testimonies to us as children.  That made a powerful impact in our lives and helped us obtain our own testimonies.  We LOVE ❤️ you all so much and pray that we may all hold on to the gospel and endure to the end!

This week, we were finally able to see a little of the area we now live in.  The Seniors put out a directory of everything that is within about 4 to 5 hours at the farthest distance away.  There are five, single spaced pages—sooo much to see and do!  Tuesday was German Unification Day, so no work at the Area Office.  Basically everything in the country was closed, but we went with another couple out to a place that has old half-timber houses and then they put all kinds of items inside of the time period.  There are people, animals, and all kinds of fun learning activities there.  We loved it!

Then this Saturday and Sunday, since conference didn’t start until 6:00 pm, we drove each day to a different castle—one that isn’t inhabited and one that has been in the family for 600 years.  The family lives in a portion of the castle and the price of admission helps pay the tremendous cost of what it takes to run a castle.  They were both fascinating in great little towns nestled in hills of beautiful fall foliage!  Sooo beautiful!

An interesting part of being in Germany is the Autobahn.  You can go any speed you feel you can safely drive, but when they want you to slow down, you see an advisory across the slow down part--usually 120 kph--about 75 mph.  Wow!  That's slowing down!  And the exit signs really make the Americans smile!
Mespelbrunn Castle

We learned how to run the GPS in the car or otherwise this wouldn’t work.  The highway system isn’t always so well marked, there are lots of round abouts, and the Autobahn where I’ve never seen such fast driving cars except in a race track!  When they want you to slow down, the signs say, “120 kph (or 75 mph),” which is slowing down!  Ridiculous that cars can go any speed they desire, and you’d better not ever get in the far left lane!  That is for the speedsters!

Well, better close.  I am still trying to figure out all these financial reimbursements with all their different currencies, and Gpa George has to have the analysts help with translations of the many Stewardship Reports he gets weekly. But slowly, we are learning more what to do!

We send our LOVE ❤️ and appreciation to you all!  Keep up the great work!

Love,

Gma Laura
